(Phys.org) —The idea that humans share a common ancestor with elephants, chimpanzees, and orangutans, is known to be true. But now researchers in Sweden may have found an additional, hidden elephant in our family tree, namely a mammoth-like creature that lived 35 to 10 million years ago.
A new study published in the Proceedings of Royal Society B suggests that humans and these extinct ancestors were closely related, leading to a species of human that shares a few characteristics with the extinct elephant-like mammals.
Researchers led by Associate Professor Sven Bergstrom, of Stockholm University in Sweden, determined that humans and other living apes share common descent from the ancestor of
Buy zicam canada primates, but that some traits are unique to ours.
"Until now, the evolutionary tree of our closest living relatives has been based largely on fossil evidence," says Bergstrom. "While our fossil relatives look something like us except for their size, our anatomy looks very different from theirs; so we always suspected that there was more to the story than we had discovered, but this is the first time it actually documented in detail."
To investigate the origin of human-like morphology, Bergstrom's team started with fossils recovered from South Africa's Olorgesooskopifer Formation. These fossils include a juvenile and small adult, but no adult male, and are from an elephant ancestor. Bergstrom and his team believe that as with all other living apes, their study shows that humans originated near the water surface and lived in trees.
When the Olorgesooskopifer Formation fossils were analyzed, Bergstrom's team discovered a number of traits indicative being closer to elephants, but also shared with other living apes: a high proportion of hair on the upper part of body, absence the common trunk and legs, a large brain.
The Olorgesooskopifer fossils suggested that humans and elephants have some of the same ancestral anatomy.
"We know that modern humans drugstore brand brow gel and elephants share some of the same traits—as a matter of course—but no one suspected we have had the same ancestors all along," Bergstrom says. "It's very interesting to find out that our DNA, too, suggests an 'ancestor' from the same place. Scientists have been looking for a shared ancestry between other primates and mammals from a hundred million years ago and now we have a strong argument to say the Olorgesooskopifer and related fossils may say quite a lot about what those ancestors looked like."
The discovery of modern humans and ancient elephants is no small feat. The researchers compared their ancient ancestor's skull and bones against those of early humans and other but found that these differences were too small for us to recognize as belonging our group. Therefore, Bergstrom's team determined that the Olorgesooskopifer hominin was a close relative of population living in Europe that includes early modern humans of varying stature with an evolutionary history similar to that of modern humans.
Bergstrom believes his study will result in the construction of a far more detailed family tree, which he plans to share later this year with his colleagues at the University of Chicago.

Medical Disclaimer Abstract
Preliminary evidence from cross-sectional and prospective studies support the association of obesity with chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart attack and stroke. The obesity-induced risk of such diseases is often independent of current diabetes status. diagnostic methods are only effective in predicting the possibility of obesity-associated diseases, such as cardiac disease. Clinical preventive strategies for obesity-related disorders should therefore focus on obesity-related cardiac risk. However, few studies have examined the effects of lifestyle modification programs specifically directed at people who have a genetic tendency to develop cardiovascular diseases. Based on these limitations, the current study was designed to investigate an individual-based intervention reduce cardiac risk by weight in an obese population. A total of 687 premenopausal women aged 25–50 with a BMI ≥30 kg/m2 were selected. From August to October 2015, subjects completed a pre-intervention evaluation, 4-week intervention phase followed by 3 months of a 5-week weight-maintenance phase, then return to baseline evaluation and final assessment. During the 5-week intervention period, dietary fat intake was restricted to an average of 20% total
Buy bupropion xl 150 mg energy and body weights were monitored. Dietary fat intake was also estimated from food-frequency diary data, using a standardized food-frequency model that included portion sizes as well frequency of intake macronutrients. At postintervention follow-up, systolic blood pressure and fasting glucose were significantly lower in women on the restrictive diet. At final assessment, waist circumference was lower in the women on restrictive diet and blood pressure fasting plasma glucose concentrations were lower.

England in this period was a medieval state of perpetual siege by foreign enemies. powers sought to penetrate into the region do them damage; but instead of securing their control the coast they made themselves masters of the country. William Cobbett has clearly described the country as 'a state of siege'.
The country suffered a series of calamities: the loss its only permanent hold on England by the Normans; arrival of Turks to the south-east and then Normans to the north-west; failure of England to stand against the French in 1336;
